Maggie Queeney is a writer, artist, and educator. She lives and works in Chicago, where she was born.

Maggie Queeney is a writer, visual artist, and educator. Queeney is the author of one full-length poetry collection, In Kind, winner of the 2022 Iowa Poetry Prize, selected by Brenda Shaughnessy, and a poetry chapbook, settler, selected by Shane McCrae in the Baltic Writing Residency Chapbook Contest and republished by Tupelo Press in 2021. Her current manuscript, The Patient, has been named as an Outstanding Submission in the 2025 Vanderbilt University Literature Prize and a Finalist in The Jake Adam York Prize in 2025. Her recent honors include the Stanley Kunitz Memorial Prize, the Ruth Stone Scholarship, and Individual Artist Project Grants from the City of Chicago in 2016 and 2019. Her poems, prose, and hybrid works have appeared in numerous publications, including The Kenyon Review, the Missouri Review, Guernica, and Hayden’s Ferry Review, among others. She founded the adult educational program at the Poetry Foundation, where she created and led thousands of original poetry workshops, book club discussions, and programs in partnership during her twelve-year tenure.
